Rigby water company seeks increase
The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has suspended for up
to six months a request by Morning View Water Co. to increase its rates by 35
percent. The water company serves about 85 households in the Rigby area.
The suspension of the company’s request will allow
commission staff the time needed to review the company’s application and
conduct an audit of its operations.
If approved, a 35 percent increase would boost the monthly
bills of customers on a quarter-acre by $7.70, on a half-acre by $10.10 and on
an acre by $12.50. The company’s owner, Nolan Gneiting, states the increase is
needed to pay increased costs of power, taxes, salaries, repairs, maintenance,
general operation costs and to recover a depleted contingency fund. The
company’s last rate increase was in 2002. In addition to the rate increase, a
$5 service charge was added to fund a contingency reserve account, which was
capped at $10,000.
The commission will take public
comment on the proposal through June 15. Comments are accepted via e-mail by
accessing the commission’s homepage at www.puc.idaho.gov
and clicking on "Comments & Questions." Fill in the case number
(MNV-W-06-01) and enter your comments. Comments can also be mailed to P.O. Box
